My Delight is in You LORD

Song of Solomon Chapter 2

- Be honest with yourself and God.

- Be a guarder of personal holiness.

- Don’t hide from God; come to Him with an open heart.

God is our protector Song of Solomon 2:3 I sat down under His shadow with great delight

He is our provider Song of Solomon 2:4 He brought me to the banqueting house, and His banner over me was love

He is our sustainer Song of Solomon 2:5 Comfort me with apples: for I am sick from love

He is our security Song of Solomon 2:6 His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me.

He my leader and initiator Song of Solomon 2:10 My beloved spoke, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.

When Adam and Eve walked in the garden they walked with God. His glory covered them, He protected them and provided for them. He sustained them, surrounded them and led them. But most importantly He walked with them. He desired to be with them in the cool of the day and fellowship with them.

There came a time when God asked Adam, “Where art thou?” Gen. 3:9

It is the same today, God is asking, “Where are you?”

Do you know where you are in your walk with God?

It is a time to ask yourself this question. He whispers softly the above references in the Song of Solomon. Do you believe that He is all these things for you? Do you know this about His love for you? Do you know that He is yours and you are His ...and He desires to walk with you and through you right now in this life?

The maiden of the poem is the daughter of a widowed mother. She loves a young shepherd to whom she is betrothed. She is employed by her brothers in their vineyard, and while on her way there she joins in with Solomon and his company who are spending the spring in that northern section. The king is so impressed by her beauty that he brings her to his pavilion and then carries her off to Jerusalem. He surrounds her with all the pomp, splendor and the glory of the court hoping thereby to win her love. She is not intrigued by these blandishments. She remains true to her lover.

We are the handmaiden of God. As you reflect on this passage take time to examine your heart to see if there are things in the world and temptations that draw you away from Him who is your heavenly first love. The Word says that we are to give God preeminence in all things, the first fruits of our life.

Journal your responses to the questions below. Note anything you want to change and integrate into your beliefs and areas of commitment and make a fresh commitment to grow deeper in Christ as His beloved Bride.

  1. Are there things that draw you away from your lover?

  2. Are there things of the world that are trying to win your affection?

  3. How are you using your time to reflect, renew and remain true to your LORD?

God has called us to obedience to His Word to reflect His righteousness and the fruit of His Spirit. As we refocus our heart and attention in these areas and seek Him He will show us how to be guarder of personal holiness.

Read: 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 What are we coming in agreement with?

Even though the King surrounded her with the glory of the court and her position in the court this did not mean anything to her, when she remained true to her shepherd lover and could not be won, he set her free.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefor to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you

Romans 8:35 who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Vs. 38 for I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our LORD.

The Bride ~ Luke 1:17 ….to make ready a people prepared for the LORD.

A special message is given to the Bride. Listen, O daughter, consider and give hear: and the instruction is given in Psalm 45. The bride will listen and obey. She will forget her people and her Father’s house, the body of Christ out from whom she came. There will be some who hear, “Go away from Me, I never knew you.” Her focus will be solely on her Groom. The virgins, her companions who follow her are the King’s daughters who are honorable women.

Psalm 45:2 Thou are fairer than the children of men; grace is poured into thy lips: therefore, God than blessed thee forever. Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most might, with thy glory and thy majesty. And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things, thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; whereby the people fall under thee. Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the scepter of thy kingdom is a right scepter. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad. Kings’ daughters were among thy honorable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir. Harken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house; so, shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy LORD: and worship thou Him.

Matthew 25:1-4 then the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamp and took no oil with them …but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

Romans 13:12 the night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in clamoring and wantonness, not in strife and jealousy, but put on the LORD Jesus Christ.

Psalm 17:15 as for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake with thy likeness.

Revelation 19:7-9 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to Him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife had made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. ….blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb.

It is her behavior that sets her apart as the bride, it is her submission by continuously being washed by the word, Jesus’ sacrifice, and the sanctification of study and practice that she may become holy and blameless, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish. It is not the unsubmissive but rather the completely submissive whom Jesus will present to Himself as the radiant church. Let us return with true heart of repentance to follow on to know the LORD and His ways.

Hosea 14 1-2, 9 Return, Israel, to the LORD your God. Your sins have been your downfall! Take words with you and return to the LORD. Say to him: “Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips. …who is wise? Let her realize these things. Who is discerning? Let them understand. The ways of the LORD are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them.

Isaiah 25:9 – And it shall be said in that day, Lo this is our God; we have waited for him, and He will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for Him, we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.

Let us draw near to our God, the lover of our souls and declare, “I am my beloveds and my beloved is mine.” And renew our devotion and love to our Bridegroom.

He bids us to come!

Remember to:

Be honest with yourself and be honest with God.

Be a guarder of personal holiness.

Don’t hide from God; come to him with an open heart.

Understand that God is your:

Protector Song of Solomon 2:3 I sat down under His shadow with great delight

Provider Song of Solomon 2:4 He brought me to the banqueting house, and His banner over me was love

Sustainer Song of Solomon 2:5 Comfort me with apples: for I am sick from love

Security Song of Solomon 2:6 His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me.

Companion Song of Solomon 2:10 My beloved spoke, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.

Actions I want to take:

Matthew 25:1-4 then the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamp and took no oil with them …but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

Wisdom is true religion; godliness; piety; the knowledge and fear of God, and sincere and uniform obedience to his commands. This is the wisdom which is from above.

Psalms 90:12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Job 28:28 And He said to the human race, "The fear of the Lord - that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding."
